Beloved, Lunar Knight

Kwaidan, Masaki Kobayashi, 1965

Beloved

Gear: none.

Skills: one civilian profession.

You must have at least CHAR 16 to take templates as a Beloved.

Beloved, The Bargain
B Folie a Deux
C Little Death
D Tragedy

Beloved: You are uncommonly beautiful, to the extent that everyone you meet will be aware of it. You are beloved by [pick one, or make one up: fire, lightning, winter, the river, the sea, the mountain, the sky, the wind]. Your lover would never harm you. All damage dealt to you is mirrored on the one who dealt it. If you ever kiss, have sex with, or fall in love with someone else, your lover will try to kill both of you. Your lover is jealous and will try to hurt and scare off (but not kill) people who show romantic or sexual interest in you.

The Bargain: You know your lover's name - at night, in private, you can speak it to summon them in human form. They will aid you by answering questions, if they can. You won't get any sleep that night; they are jealous of your attention, whether or not you fuck. If you ever tell the name to anyone, or allow anyone else to finds out what it is, your lover will try to kill both of you.

Folie a Deux: You can attack yourself to have the damage mirrored on anything you can see. This is always accompanied by cruel laughter.

Little Death: When you summon your lover at night, you gain d6 temporary hit points (still no rested bonus).

Tragedy: Unlike other D templates, Tragedy is not unlocked with experience. Instead, you get your D template (regardless of wether you have your B or C templates) exactly nine months after you acquired your A template. When this happens, your lover will give you a choice: to follow them to their demesne in the air, and disappear forever, or refuse and spurn their gift. If you spurn them, they will fight you to the death. In this battle your hp is your CHAR score - theirs is 24. They fight in their human form which is now made fey and awful, with an enchanted spear (+6 to hit, +2 to damage). They will always allow you the first strike. If you win, you lose all templates in Beloved.

Lunar Knight

Gear: Pearl-Bladed Spear (medium spear +1, gives off moonlight as a torch), Silver Maile (heavy armour +1, while wearing it you do not have to breathe), White Bow (longbow +1, counts as enchanted), silver flute, 10 arrows of human-slaying +3, parachute, a perfectly accurate map of the region, a Common phrase book.

Skills: Geometry, Performance (with your flute, sounds unearthly and weird to earth people, but very beautiful nonetheless), Composition.

You speak Lunarian, and can only speak Common using your phrase book, with words of four or fewer letters, in sentences of five or fewer words.

A Lunar Knight
B Phaser
C Reflection
D Beacon Warfare

Lunar Knight: You may take d4 distortion damage to make a melee attack against anyone that you can see. You immediately teleport to striking distance with the target in a flash of silver light. Your edges waver slightly in the aftermath.

Phaser: When the moon is full you have +4 STR and +10 HP. When it is waxing you have +2 STR and +5 HP. When it is waning your have -2 STR and -5 HP (min 1). When there is no moon you have -4 STR and -10 HP (min 1).

Reflective Surface: When you teleport using Lunar Knight, you leave behind a perfect copy of yourself. They have 1 hp, and a single turn to act before they dissolve into moon bubbles.

Beacon Warfare: At night, and under the sky, your Pearl-Bladed Spear can now be used as a special ranged weapon. You can point it at an enemy you can see in place of making an attack. One turn later, that position will be hit with a beam of buzzing white light that deals d10 (full), d4 (waxing), or d2 (waning) moon damage to everyone within five feet. This attack can't be used when there is no moon. In addition, your exploits have earned you the trust of your superiors. Once ever, during a full moon, you may signal a set of coordinates (for any point on a map that you possess) to the moon, provided you have a light source large enough, and a mechanism capable of doing so (they use morse code). About eight hours after the moon receives the signal, 2d2 A template Lunar Knights will parachute onto that position. If you are there to meet them they will expect military orders, and will serve you loyally.
